Lisa Solberg

A ton of LA reminds me of Berlin and vice versa. Mainly the creative energy of the people. Less the setting.

Stepping off the plane in LA I feel like

...jumping in the ocean.

My favorite neighborhood in LA is...

...Boyle Heights / Echo Park because it’s still edgy.

Which place in LA reminds you of Berlin (and the other way round)?

A ton of LA reminds me of Berlin and vice versa. Mainly the creative energy of the people. Less the setting.

Where do/did you find inspiration as an artist in Berlin / LA?

I try to find a balance between nature and urban on a daily basis.

Quick association: what is the first feeling/smell/sound that comes to mind thinking of Berlin? What is the first association with LA?

Berlin: Excitement, Brezen, clinking of beer glasses.
LA: Excitement, Jasmine, Birds chirping.

How did moving abroad to Berlin influence your work?

The progressive nature of Berlin mixed with Berlin mixed with its inherent undercurrent of antiquity is very much a thing that doesn’t exist in the US. There’s so much history that you can feel there, in the buildings and the streets, and this is really inspiring because it makes you really function and produce with a certain humility.
